The TV Baby Has Entered The Building

The TV Baby is here! The moniker originated in the movie Drugstore Cowboy when Matt Dillon's character calls his neighbor a tv baby in reference to being raised on television.

My parents' favorite babysitter was our big old Sylvania television with knobs you actually had to change by hand and a big rotor wheel on top that turned the giant antenna on top of our house. That tv lasted 20 years and was my nanny, my friend and my safety blanket on more than one occasion. I watched the first space shuttle launch on it, woke up at 3am to watch Charles and Diana get married on it and used it (along with our first VHS VCR) to tape the first Live Aid. I credit that behemoth with instilling a love of television deep within my soul.

Television is my secret lover and has broken up more than one relationship. To this day my friends know not to call me during prime time from September through May. It's just a fact of life when you know the TV Baby...accept me and my unconditional love of TV and you will have a friend for life.
